Southampton and Burnley have their eyes on Jadel Katongo, the promising Manchester City centre-back currently on loan at Peterborough, reports suggest.

This England U-20 star has been making waves in League One, where he’s been playing since his loan move to Weston Homes Stadium for the 2023/24 season.

Originally a centre-back in Manchester City’s youth teams, the 19-year-old has been experimenting with playing as a central midfielder at Peterborough, a position switch he’s thriving in.

His adaptability is not only garnering attention at the Etihad Stadium but also attracting interest from other Championship and Premier League teams.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Championship club Southampton, known for their successful negotiations with Manchester City for young talents, is keenly following Katongo. Additionally, Premier League new entrants Burnley, under the management of Manchester City’s iconic former captain Vincent Kompany, are considering him as a potential long-term investment.

Southampton and Burnley continue to monitor Katongo’s impressive progress at Peterborough, as per recent reports.

The young English player has been a standout in League One since joining Peterborough on loan for the 2023/24 season from Manchester City, where he has been playing since he was nine.

At Peterborough, Katongo, initially a centre-back, is excelling in a new central midfield role, catching the eye of both his parent club and other teams in higher divisions.

The recent report from Alan Nixon indicates that Southampton, adept at striking deals with Manchester City for young players, is actively pursuing Katongo.
