But he had an ineffective first half as Newcastle battered down the doors at United’s end,

And it all got too much for Ten Hag, who was seen berating Martial from the sideline at one stage.

The Frenchman had failed to track Fabian Schar several times, allowing the Newcastle defender to burst forward.

And Ten Hag ended up waving his arms at frustration at Martial.

However, Martial responded in kind as he threw his arms up in defence.

Jermain Jenas slated the spectacle at half time on TNT Sports.

Jenas said: “This seems to be the culture within the team at the minute, a lot of arms raised, a lot of blaming each other and no cohesiveness, they’re not together.

“He (Ten Hag) can feel it, he knows they’re not going to win this game unless they’re not together.”

Shortly after Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle a 1-0 lead, Martial’s time on the field expired in the sixtyth minute.

He was replaced by Hojlund, who is yet to score in the Premier League.

But with United failing to rally, the £75 million Dane looked even more unrecognizable.

And the home crowd at St. James’ Park cheered as Toon scored yet another important league victory.
