Brahim Diaz, a star player for Real Madrid, said that he cut holes in his socks to look like England player Jude Bellingham.
The Spanish player went on loan to AC Milan for three years and then came back to Real Madrid in the summer.
When he got back, Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund. It looks like the two have become friends, since Diaz speaks English from when he was at Man City.
After some time, Diaz said that he got the idea to cut holes in his socks from his new teammate, Bellingham.
People all over Europe have seen this happen, and English players like Bukayo Saka and Conor Gallagher have also chosen to cut up their socks.
In an interview with the Madrid news site Defensacentral.com, Diaz explained why he copied Bellingham.
He said, “I didn’t know why, but my calves had gone up in the last few games.”
He runs for 90 minutes and is fine, so I told him I had to do something.
He kept making fun of the fact that he was hoping the choice wouldn’t turn and hurt him again this season.
He joked, “Let’s hope they don’t blow up again now that I’m going up the stairs!”
Bellingham’s choice to cut up his socks started getting attention from fans when he was in Germany.
Players cut the back of their socks to ease stress and keep their legs from hurting.
Cutting holes in socks that are too tight has become a popular way for football players to fix this problem.
If Diaz copies Bellingham in this way, he might be able to get in the same great shape as his teammate, who has been on fire in Madrid so far this season.
He already has 14 goals this season, which is more than Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for Real Madrid.
