HARD TO UNDERSTAND: Manchester United initially valued player ANTONY at £25m before choosing to pay an additional £60m for the same contract

This morning, a pretty bad story came out about John Murtough, who is in charge of football at Manchester United. Not only has he upset Sir Alex Ferguson and Nicky Butt in recent years, but the story says the club paid £60m more for Antony than they thought they were worth before Erik ten Hag took over.

There’s a lot of bad things that can be said about David Ornstein’s work since he became football director at The Athletic. He has done amazing research to show what has been going on behind the scenes under Murtough’s “leadership.” We all knew it already, but this pretty much shows it: Manchester United is not being run the way it should be.

The reputable source says that United looked at Antony when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge of the first team. At that point, they thought he was worth about £25m.

The Athletic also say that United made it clear to Ajax, Antony’s old club, that the buying would end at £60m during talks.

That is, until Edwin van der Sar went above and beyond to make sure that Ajax paid £86m for the Brazil international. A big win for the Dutch giants, who have been having a tough time since Ten Hag left.

A lot of bad things are said about Antony because he doesn’t play like a United winger should.

We hope that he starts playing better in the new year so that he can help set up more goals for himself and other forwards like Rasmus Hojlund.
