PLAYER REVIEW: Man Utd 2-2 Spurs: Rasmus Hojlund impresses, Marcus Rashford ends drought… but which United star only scored 4/10 points?

Both Manchester United and Tottenham came away from their Premier League match on Sunday night with a point after a thrilling four-goal thriller. 

Rasmus Hojlund sent in a shot from within the box to give the Red Devils the lead in the first three minutes of play. Richarlison responded with a header.

Five minutes before halftime, Marcus Rashford, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe observing from the stands, neatly restored the home team’s lead. 

Despite their best efforts in the first half, Rodrigo Bentancur of Spurs put United out of the game in the opening minute of the second.

decided to stay and play for United before taking a plane to Ivory Coast, where his nation, Cameroon, will launch their AFCON campaign the following day. Perhaps he should have gone for the corner Richarlison was heading into, but he was powerless to thwart Rodrigo Bentancur’s finish.

Not long after United seized the lead early on and made some excellent deliveries, there was an important clearance off the line. Impressive display.

Despite James Maddison and Son Heung-Min being out for the Spurs, it was a difficult afternoon. though, compared to Jonny Evans, appeared far more comfortable with Lisandro Martinez.

had a respectable first half, but Bentancur’s equalizer 50 seconds into the second half came about too easy. Evans, who is 36, looked exactly that way throughout the play segment. Taken off for Lisandro Martinez just after the hour mark.

Wan-Bissaka Aaron (5)

ejected from the game for taking Brennan Johnson out in the first half, and Richarlison’s goal may have been prevented had they performed better in the air. struggled to provide much offensively when Spurs controlled the ball.

Erik Christian (6)

After returning to the team due to illness, he played well for just under an hour before Erik ten Hag realized he needed to make a change, as Spurs dominated the second half of the match. Scott McTominay took his place. For United, his role off the ball is concerning.

Mainoo Kobe (6)

Another strong performance from the 18-year-old, but this time it was up against the Spurs midfield, which served as a true test and a reminder of the defensive discipline he requires and will undoubtedly acquire with more experience at this level.

Quite mellow performance by his recent standards. Possibly unfortunate not to have been awarded a penalty after being hauled down by Destiny Udogie in the first half, but in added time, he found Scott McTominay with a magnificent ball, which the Scot failed to head over when it was more difficult to miss.

Marcus Rashford, position (7)

He scored his first goal at Old Trafford since May 2023 with a fantastic finish after an action-packed first half in which he was first wasteful. Eventually replaced by Antony late in the game, despite struggling to acquire the ball in the second half.

Hojlund Rasmus (8)

scored a decisive goal near the end to give United the ideal start. Now two goals in as many home games, and one assist to Rashford’s goal. Thought to be United’s best player of the day, he was booked for stalling a Spurs free kick.

In the 58th minute, he entered the game and United looked instantly better. A very strong thirty minutes or so, but in injury time, they squandered a clear opportunity. Something he’ll think about all night.

Lisandro Martinez (6)

demonstrated why United has been missing him. When he took Evans’ place in the 63rd minute, they appeared much more formidable at the back.
