He emerged victorious over Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid and Bono from Al-Hilal, earning this distinction following a remarkable season with Manchester City, where he contributed to the team’s exceptional achievement of winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

This accolade was determined by his performances in the season following the 2022 World Cup’s conclusion. Manchester City’s success was further highlighted at the awards, with Pep Guardiola receiving the best coach award and five City players being selected for the FIFPRO men’s World XI. Lionel Messi narrowly beat Erling Haaland for The Best FIFA Men’s Player, preventing a complete dominance of awards by City players.

Ederson, now the second Brazilian to win this award after Alisson’s 2019 victory, had previously placed third in that year’s competition. Following the award, Ederson is recovering from an injury sustained in a recent match against Newcastle, looking forward to rejoining his team after the Premier League’s brief mid-season break for their upcoming game against Burnley on January 31.
