Man City to Spend £85 Million on Paqueta

In an effort to secure a new attacking midfielder, Man City has revisited their interest in Lucas Paqueta, although the Brazilian player does not come cheap. According to various sources, the Brazilian midfielder has reached a personal agreement with the current Premier League champions. However, City’s attempt to activate Paqueta’s release clause from West Ham is expected to face some challenges. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveals that Paqueta has a release clause worth £85 million.

Man City is no stranger to making hefty investments in the transfer market. They previously spent £100 million to acquire Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021 and £78 million for Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig last summer. Whether they are willing to meet the £85 million asking price for Paqueta remains a question.

The Etihad Stadium team has been monitoring Paqueta for a long time, even showing interest last summer. However, the deal did not go through due to a potential gambling-related suspension for Paqueta.

West Ham paid a club record £51 million to bring Paqueta from Lyon in 2022. The midfielder has made 78 appearances for West Ham, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists. He also helped West Ham win the Europa Conference League last season.

Paqueta’s next match with West Ham will be against Fulham in the 33rd round of the Premier League this weekend. However, he will miss the next Europa League quarter-final match against Bayer Leverkusen next week due to a suspension.
