Without Hesitation: Cole Palmer Opens Up on Why He Left Man City for Chelsea

Cole Palmer believes his decision to move to Chelsea last summer helped him develop quickly and be called up to the England national team.

Cole Palmer has had a successful season with Chelsea. He became the best young player in the Premier League and was named in coach Gareth Southgate’s temporary list of 33 people for Euro 2024. According to rumors, he will almost certainly be on the final list of 26 players. .

Palmer left Manchester City after making 41 appearances over three seasons, but only 13 starts and three appearances in the Premier League.

However, after moving to Chelsea for 42.5 million pounds, he shined with 22 goals in the Premier League, only less than Erling Haaland. In addition, only Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has more assists than him.

 

When asked whether leaving Man City for Chelsea would increase his chances of being called up to the England team, Palmer, who has made 48 appearances for the Blues, answered PA News:

 

“Maybe so. In just three months since joining Chelsea, I have debuted for the national team. Playing more helps me get more attention. When you are at Man City, there are a lot of players.” world-class players and the responsibility is usually on them. I just wanted to play and now I have more opportunities. I think my first season has proven that decision was right.”

Palmer has scored many goals as a false number 9 for Chelsea, but he understands that the competition for attacking positions in the England national team is fierce.

With names like Foden, Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, James Maddison, Bellingham and Harry Kane, Palmer is willing to play in any position to contribute to the team.

“Obviously I’ve played with Phil Foden before at Man City and everyone knows how good Jude Bellingham is, so playing with them for England is exciting,”  Palmer said.
