Proving His Class: Cole Palmer Scores Stunning Goal on His Return to the England National Team

Cole Palmer’s outstanding campaign continued with a first goal for England this evening, while Conor Gallagher also started the Three Lions’ 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The friendly at St James’ Park, England’s penultimate fixture before Euro 2024, saw Gareth Southgate again include Gallagher in his starting XI. Palmer, meanwhile, was handed a full debut for his country.

There were no goals in the opening period, but, just as the hour mark approached, Ezri Konsa was pulled down from an England corner, and a spot-kick was awarded following a VAR review.

With England captain Harry Kane not on the pitch, it was left to Palmer to step up from 12 yards. Just as he did throughout his maiden campaign with the Blues, the 22-year-old converted coolly.

Palmer was withdrawn soon after, but Gallagher remained as England added further goals through Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kane. The Chelsea Academy graduate was one of only four outfield players to complete ninety minutes.

England are next in action on Friday evening as they take on Iceland at Wembley. The Three Lions’ travelling party for Euro 2024 will then be confirmed.

Also on target for his country this evening was Armando Broja. The striker started for Albania against Liechtenstein and broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish from a quick free-kick in the 31st minute.

Jasir Asani and Ernest Muci added to Broja’s goal to ensure a comfortable victory for Albania, who take on Azerbaijan on Friday evening before heading off to the European Championships.

Elsewhere, Mykhailo Mudryk was in action for Ukraine against Germany. The 23-year-old played just over an hour of the friendly in Nuremberg, which ended 0-0 despite the hosts creating better chances.

Ukraine are also back in action on Friday evening as they take on Poland in Warsaw.
