Kobbie Mainoo’s Dad Watches Man Utd Star’s Euro 2024 Debut as England Starts with a Win

England got off to a good start at this summer’s European Championship, defeating Serbia 1-0 in their first group encounter on Sunday evening.

Gareth Southgate had chosen three Manchester United players to the provisional 33-man squad, but Harry Maguire’s injury, which also ruled him out until the conclusion of the club season, meant that only Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were named to the final 26-man roster.

Both players were in the matchday squad against Serbia, with Shaw eventually returning to the bench after more than four months off.

Mainoo came in as a substitute, but the 19-year-old made a late comeback and helped his side finish the game after Jude Bellingham’s first-half header gave the Three Lions all three points.

Mainoo hopes to play a more major role in England’s future group games against Denmark and Slovenia.

It is uncertain whether Shaw will play in those games, but his selection on the team is a significant boost for Southgate.

Prior to the game, Erik ten Hag appeared to disclose some inside information on Shaw’s fitness, saying that he would only be ready for selection until England advanced past the group stage.
