Kalvin Phillips ‘offered Premier League escape as Roma consider bid for Man City and England exile’

The Italian giants are known to be admirers of the £45 million Manchester City midfielder, who lost his place in the England squad ahead of the Euros.

Kalvin Phillips' West Ham loan was a disaster

But according to reports in Italy, coach Daniele De Rossi is concerned about his fitness after a nightmare couple of years.

Phillips started just two Premier League matches, with four more in other competitions, during the first 18 months of his time with the champions.

The 28-year-old former Leeds man then accepted a loan move to West Ham in a desperate attempt to keep his Euro 2024 hopes alive.

However, that proved to be a disaster too, as he started just three league games and got a red card in one of those at Nottingham Forest.

At the start of May, the arrangement was cut short due to injury, meaning he returned to his parent club for treatment.

SunSport reported earlier this week how Phillips has indicated to City he wants to return to training early in a bid to put his difficult couple of seasons behind him.

Pep Guardiola’s men are due to return in mid-July before embarking on a pre-season tour of North America later in the month.

Phillips is expected to be part of the travelling party for the US, but that could change if a club makes a suitable offer for him.

The 31-year-old ace will have been encouraged by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate, who said last week that nobody has been able to take on the role Phillips plays for his country.

Trent Alexander-Arnold started England’s first two Euro 2024 games alongside Declan Rice.

But Conor Gallagher replaced him for last night’s draw with Slovenia.

However, he was replaced at half-time by Kobbie Mainoo.

Fellow Three Lions outcast Jack Grealish posted on Instagram over the weekend that he is spending his break getting in shape.
