The Netherlands and England played an exciting match in the EURO 2024 semi-final. Despite being behind, England fought back strongly to win 2-1 thanks to Ollie Watkins’ goal in the 90+1 minute.

The Netherlands started the match quite well against England. In the 7th minute, Simons punished Rice’s mistake of losing the ball with a very dangerous shot from a distance, hitting Pickford’s net.

 

England were behind but they were lucky. In the 17th minute, the “Three Lions” were awarded a penalty. After consulting VAR, the referee determined that Dumfries had fouled Kane in the penalty area. Kane himself from the penalty spot finished the equalizer 1-1.

Ollie Watkins had the decisive moment

In the remaining time of the first half, England and the Netherlands both had good opportunities to score a second goal. However, neither side could take advantage.

In the second half, England conceded the game to the Netherlands at times. Then the “Three Lions” launched dangerous counter-attacks. Typically in the 79th minute, Saka shot into the net of the Netherlands but the goal was not recognized. The reason was because the previous assist maker, Walker, was offside.

But England did not have to regret for too long. In the 90th minute, substitute Ollie Watkins had a good hold of the ball, then scored a tricky shot to put the “Three Lions” up 2-1.

Conceding a goal at that time almost extinguished the Netherlands’ chance of equalizing. The “Three Lions” successfully maintained the score 2-1, thereby advancing to the EURO 2024 final.
