MU’s latest announcement reads: ” Donny van de Beek has completed his move to Girona in La Liga. Everyone at Manchester United would like to wish Donny the best of luck in the next chapter of his career. He will return to England soon as Girona have pre-season friendlies against Newcastle United and Bournemouth next month.”

With just £500,000 to his name, United have made a huge loss on Van de Beek. They had initially paid £35m to sign him from Ajax, but reports have confirmed that the add-on fee could rise by around £8m.

Still wanting some profit, Man United has attached a few clauses to Van de Beek’s contract. Accordingly, the Red Devils have included a clause to receive a percentage of the amount that Girona sells Van de Beek in the future. The additional clauses easily bring Man United 4-5 million pounds. In addition, the Manchester team also included other clauses, which can increase the deal to 15 million pounds.

Van de Beek joined United ahead of the 2020/21 season but never cemented himself as a regular at Old Trafford. Apart from his first season, when he played 19 Premier League games, the Dutchman made fewer than 10 appearances in the Premier League each season. He left the club after making 62 appearances, only 23 of which were starts.

Van de Beek has signed a contract with Girona until 2028 and will be hoping to rediscover the form that saw him play a key role in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. The midfielder has also won 19 caps for the Netherlands, but was overlooked for their EURO 2024 squad.

Van de Beek would be a welcome addition to Girona, who finished third in La Liga last season and qualified for the Champions League for the first time.
