After 120 minutes of intense competition, Argentina was crowned champion thanks to the brilliance of ‘super sub’ Lautaro Martinez.

The 2024 Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia was dramatic and exciting from the very first minutes. With the nature of a championship-deciding match, both teams entered the match with high speed and determination.

From the opening whistle, Colombia showed a strong attacking style and controlled the midfield well. The South American team quickly imposed their style of play on their opponents and created many dangerous situations. Colombia had more possession and had more shots than Argentina.

 

Despite being outplayed, Argentina still created some highlights. Lionel Messi, Argentina’s brightest star, had a few individual breakthroughs and created some remarkable shots. However, Messi and young striker Julian Alvarez failed to convert their shots into goals, mainly due to the excellence of the Colombian goalkeeper and the solidity of the opposition defense.

Entering the second half, the game was pushed up but no real dangerous opportunities were created. The highlight of the second 45 minutes was the image of Messi leaving the field in tears.

The two teams entered extra time, a tense match continued, it seemed like the match would have to go to penalties, but in the 112th minute Lautaro Martinez shone with a delicate finish.

The remaining time was not enough for Colombia to create a surprise. Argentina won and officially won the Copa America for the second consecutive time.
