Latest Arsenal transfer news and gossip with updates on Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres and Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino
Arsenal face a busy few weeks on and off the pitch ahead of the new Premier League season. The Gunners are currently in the United States for their pre-season tour across the Atlantic.
Mikel Arteta’s side will face Liverpool on Wednesday night in Philadelphia in their next friendly fixture, days after beating Manchester United 2-1 in their previous friendly. This week also saw Arsenal complete their fourth signing of the summer, with Riccardo Calafiori arriving on a long-term deal after leaving Bologna.
The Gunners are continuing to be linked with a host of potential new signings as the summer transfer window rolls on, with deadline day set for September 2. Here, football.london takes a look at some of the latest Arsenal news and gossip that have been making headlines over the last 24 hours.
Viktor Gyokeres boost
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their transfer pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Swedish international this summer. Gyokeres is reported to have an £86 million release clause in his contract with Sporting.
According to HITC, Sporting would be willing to accept an offer below the release clause. As a result, Arsenal may be able to strike a deal lower than they originally thought if the interest in signing Gyokeres proves to be genuine.
football.london says: There have seemingly been daily updates about Arsenal’s reported interest in signing Gyokeres. Should this latest claim about a drop in price tag prove to be accurate, then the Gunners have an opportunity to sign the striker that has been needed in the squad over the last 12 months.
