Manchester City now really want to sign 21-year-old speedster, Rodri knows just how good he is

It has been reported that Manchester City are interested in signing Athletic Bilbao sensation Nico Williams.

As reported by AS, it seems like the 21-year-old’s future is in serious doubt ahead of next summer.

Manchester City, who are renowned for their expertise in the transfer market, could be eyeing a move for one of Europe’s most talented young wingers, Nico Williams.

Rodri, who has played alongside the highly-rated talent at international level on several occasions, lauded his performance for Spain after their 1-0 win against Portugal in the Nations League in September last year.

“Nico has been differential.”

“He has changed the pace of the game with his stride and the punch he has. The self-confidence has been what we needed. Great assistance and Alvaro [Morata] was there”, he told MARCA after the contest.

With Jeremy Doku being the only natural wide forward Pep Guardiola can call upon, it seems like the club may be keen on bolstering this area of the pitch ahead of next season.

Now, it has been revealed by AS that Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are all “very interested” in signing Nico Williams.

But there is competition for the treble-winners in La Liga for the youngster’s signature, with Real Madrid and Barcelona also keen to secure his services.

It has also been claimed that the potential blow for Manchester City in this deal is that Nico Williams’ priority remains to stay in Spain, and the prospect of signing for Los Blancos “motivates” him.

Currently, Athletic Bilbao are believed to be doing their best to ensure that Williams, who has a £43.5 million (€50 million) release clause in his deal, signs a contract renewal as he could leave on a free transfer next summer.

The Pamplona-born forward’s contract expires in 2024, and he intends to put pen to paper as he wishes for Bilbao to take home a fee from his potential sale next year.

However, Manchester City-linked winger Nico Williams will refuse to do so if Athletic Bilbao intend to increase the value of the release clause.

Ultimately, the Sky Blues need not be too bothered, as the likes of Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish present top options out wide in any case.
