Man City Windfall Could Exceed £70M Amid Surprise Tottenham Interest in Defender

Manchester City have made a habit in recent seasons of selling fringe players for profit

Manchester City could pass the £70million mark in sales this summer amid reported Tottenham interest in Issa Kabore.

The defender impressed last season on loan at Luton Town and has attracted the attention of Spurs this summer. It is understood the 23-year-old is available for around £15million but that City have not yet had contact from North London for the Burkina Faso international’s services.

City paid £4million for Kabore in 2020 but he has yet to feature for the first team. His spell with the Hatters last season followed loan moves to former club Mechelen, Troyes and Marseille.

Should he depart City he would be the latest fringe player to leave the Etihad this summer. The Blues have been quiet in the transfer market having added only Brazil international Savinho.

But it has been a different story on the outgoings front with Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap and Tommy Doyle departing and the club netting a sell-on fee from Douglas Luiz’s move from Aston Villa to Juventus. City will also net €30m from Borussia Dortmund for full-back Yan Couto next year.

He has joined the German side on loan and as part of the deal, Dortmund must buy him next summer for around €30m (£25m), giving City a healthy £20m profit on a player who only ever featured in friendlies. Couto had spoken in the past of wanting to play under Pep Guardiola at City, but has now decided to pursue his career away from the Etihad.
